The holder of this certificate has successfully completed a course and passed an examination in the

theory and practice of snorkel rescue, including self and buddy rescue, in-water resuscitation, rescue

management and first aid awareness.

PREREQUISITES

1. Be an active Senior Snorkeller with a minimum of 15 snorkels of at least 30 minutes duration (not

including those logged for Senior Snorkel examination).

2. Have written consent of parent/guardian to undertake snorkel diving (if under 18 years of age).

3. Sign medical disclaimer (signed by parent/guardian if under 18 years of age).

4. Have your club D.O/S.O?s approval.

COURSE OUTLINE

The course consists of a series of lectures, pool work and open water work.

Lecture Programme

1. Snorkel Diver Medic Course.

2. Snorkel Rescue.

3. Hypothermia (from Snorkel Module).

4. Buoyancy (from Snorkel Module).

5. Shallow Water Blackout.

Pool Training

Instruction in the following skills:

1. Buoyancy control.

2. Towing while administering EAR.

3. Lift - retrieving snorkeller from pool bottom. (Underarm grasp and pull to surface.)

4. C.P.R. - administering on the bank.

5. Combination of 3, and 2, in that order for a distance of 50m.

Open Water Training

Instruction in the following techniques:

1. Achieve positive buoyancy.

2. Lift victim to surface.

3. Towing while administering EAR for a distance of 300m.

4. Land victim and administer C.P.R.

5. Swim 200m without mask, snorkel or fins.

NOTE ON TOWING WHILE ADMINISTERING EAR

Options open to the snorkeller in light of new style of snorkel on the market.

1. Traditional EAR through snorkel if it?s a J tube snorkel.

2. Mouth to nose. Remove mask, seal mouth and breathe into nose if shotgun style snorkel.

Candidate will be expected to practise skills and techniques learnt on the course in order to become

proficient in all exercises.

Rescue Snorkeller Test

Examination to take place on one day not more than 4 weeks after the course and will cover all pool

and open water exercises in the course. All exercises to be completed satisfactorily. An oral test based

on the lectures covered in the course will be given.

Examiner to be at least Snorkel Examiner.

On successful completion of test a C.M.A.S. certificate will be awarded.
