A Senior Snorkel Diver is proficient in open water snorkelling with a buddy. He/she is permitted to snorkel dive with buddies of the same grade or higher and may lead trainees, with the D.O.?s or S.O.?s permission. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS 1. Must have written consent of parent/guardian to undertake snorkel diving (if under 18 years of age). 2. Sign medical disclaimer (signed by parent/ guardian if under 18 years of age). 3. Swim 200m freestyle without stopping. 4. Swim on back for 50m. 5. Hold breath underwater for 30 seconds within 5 minutes of ?2? and ?3? above. 6. The S.O. / D.O. and the Parent/Guardian must be confident to recommend the snorkeller for the grade.This must be in writing and should be kept with the logbook. COURSE CONTENT The course consists of the remaining lectures from the Snorkel Module. Pool work concentrates on perfecting all required skills, increasing fitness and developing safety skills. Both lectures and pool work must include all work covered in the Junior and Intermediate Snorkel Dive levels. Lecture Programme Junior and Intermediate requirements plus: 1. Hypoxia, Anoxia and Drowning. 2. Hypothermia. 3. Snorkel Planning. 4. The Sea. 5. Using Small Boats. Pool Training Junior and Intermediate requirements plus: 1. Towing while administering EAR (25m). 2. Ditch and recovery of all equipment (all fitted underwater in one breath). 3. Three forward rolls (in one breath) and three backward rolls (in one breath). 4. Fin 25m underwater with and without mask. 5. Demonstrate C.P.R. on the bank. Pool Snorkel Test Exercises ?1? through ?5? to be completed without difficulty as well as all aspects from Junior and Intermediate course. Oral examination based on lectures from the Junior, Intermediate and Senior courses. Examiner to be at least Snorkel Instructor. Senior Snorkel Diver Open Water Snorkel Training Log 10 open water snorkel dives of at least 30 minutes duration each in Irish Waters. Practise the following: 1. Entries, buoyancy, finning and snorkel diving. 2. Mask and snorkel clearing. 3. Towing and EAR. 4. Group safety. 5. Finning without a mask and snorkel. 6. Snorkel dive to 6m. 7. Swim 100m without mask, snorkel or fins. Open Water Training Exercises 2-7 to be completed without difficulty, to the satisfaction of at least a Snorkel Instructor. On successful completion of course, test and open water training a C.M.A.S. certificate will be awarded.
