He/she has developed a greater range of pool skills and acquired a greater depth of theory. The

Intermediate Snorkeller has ample time to pursue the goals laid out in the section Additional

Achievements. (The section Additional Achievements is open to all grades.)

The Intermediate Snorkel Diver must be accompanied, in open water, by a snorkeller of at

least Senior Snorkel grade.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

1. Must have written consent of parent or guardian to undertake snorkel diving.

2. Sign medical disclaimer. Parent/guardian to do so.

3. Swim I50m freestyle without stopping

4. Swim on back for 25m.

5. Hold breath underwater for 20 seconds within 5 minutes of ?2? and ?3? above.

6. The S.O. / D.O. and the Parent/Guardian must be confident to recommend the snorkeller for the

grade.This must be in writing and should be kept with the logbook.

COURSE CONTENT

This comprises of a further series of lectures from the Snorkel Manual. New skills and exercises are

introduced in the pool training. Both lectures and pool training must include work covered in the

Junior Snorkel Diver course.

Lecture Programme

Junior snorkel requirements plus:

1. Effects of pressure.

2. Buoyancy.

3. Respiration and circulation.

4. Ears and sinuses.

5. First Aid Awareness.

6. C.P.R.

Pool Snorkel Training

Junior snorkel requirements plus:

1. One forward and one backward roll.

2. Surface dive to bottom of pool without mask.

3. Fin up to 15m underwater with and without mask.

4. Ditch and recovery of mask and snorkel. (Mask and snorkel fitted underwater, mask and snorkel

cleared before surfacing.)

5. Ditch and recovery of fins. Fins to be fitted before surfacing.

Pool Snorkel Test

Exercises ?1? through ?5? to be carried out without difficulty as well as all aspects of the Junior course.

Oral examination based on lectures from the Junior and Intermediate courses.

Test to be administered by at least a Snorkel Instructor.

Intermediate Snorkel Diver

Open Water Snorkel Training

1. Log 5 snorkel dives in Irish waters of at least 20 minutes duration.

2. Practise entries, buoyancy adjustment, finning and snorkel diving.

3. Mask and snorkel clearing.

4. Group safety.

5. Snorkel dive to 2 metres.

On completion of course, pool snorkel test and open water training a C.M.A.S. certificate will be

awarded.
